Crab masala

Crab masala is a spicy and delicious curry to be eaten with Idli/Dosai or Rice.
Preparation Time : 10 mins

Cooking Time : 15-20 mins

Serves : 4-5

Ingredients:
  • Crab - 6
  • Tomato - 3
  • Onion - 2 medium
  • Green chilli - 2
  • Ginger-garlic paste - 2 tsp heaped
  • Oil - 4 tblsp
  • Chopped coriander leaves - 1 tblsp
  • Water - as required
  • Salt - to taste

Spice powders:

  • Turmeric powder - ½ tsp
  • Chilli powder - 2 tsp
  • Coriander powder - 2 tsp

Ingredients to be roasted and ground:

  • Grated coconut - 2-3 tblsp
  • Cumin (Jeera)seeds - 1½ tsp
  • Pepper corn - 1½ tsp

Method:
  1. Roast grated coconut, cumin seeds and pepper corn and grind them into a smooth paste with little water.
  2. Chop the onion, tomatoes and chilli. Wash and chop the coriander leaves.
  3. Heat a pan and add half the oil.
  4. Add onion and saute them on a medium heat until they become translucent.
  5. Remove the onion from the pan with the slotted spoon and let it cool down. Switch off the heat.
  6. Grind the fried onions and tomatoes into a smooth paste.
  7. Heat the same pan and add rest of the oil, ginger-garlic paste and fry for about a minute.
  8. Add ground onion and tomatoes, green chilli and all the spice powders and fry for about 5-6 minutes.
  9. Add the ground coconut mix and let it cook for few minutes.
  10. Add the crab pieces, water and salt; cover and cook for about 6-8 minutes.
  11. Garnish with coriander leaves.
  12. Crab masala is ready to be served.

It is suitable for Rice and <a href="/recipes/Sambar">Sambar</a>,<a href="/recipes/Rasam">Rasam</a>, <a href="/recipes/Mung-Dhal-curry">Mung Dhal curry</a> or <a href="/recipes/Dhal">Dhal</a> or Idli/Dosai/Aappam.
