Tamarind Chutney / Puli chutney

Ingredients :

 

  • Chopped Corinader Leaves - 3 tblsp
  • Choppen Mint Leaves - 3 tblsp
  • Chopped Curry leaves - 1 tblsp (optional)
  • Grated Coconut - 2 tblsp
  • Tamarind - ball of 1 inch in diameter
  • Onion - 1/2 medium
  • Garlic - 1 clove
  • Green Chilli - 1 for medium spicy or 2 for extra spicy
  • Oil - 1 tsp
  • Salt - to taste
  • Water - as required


Method :
  1. Chop coriander leaves, mint leaves, curry leaves, chilli and onion.
  2. Peel the Garlic. Grate the coconut.
  3. Wash the tamarind and soak it in 1 table spoon of water.
  4. Heat oil in a frying pan.
  5. Fry the grated coconut for about 1-2 minutes.
  6. Combine coriander leaves, mint leaves, 3/4s of curry leaves, chilli, onion, garlic, tamarind and tamarind soaked water.
  7. Grind them in a medium jar for about 1-2 minutes on a low power.
  8. Add onion, roasted coconut and salt.
  9. Grind again for a minute on a low power. Add a table spoon of water if needed.
  10. Garnish with chopped curry leaves if preferred.
  11. Tamarind chutney is ready to be eaten.​


Notes : Tamarind can be replaced by a teaspoon of Amchoor(Mango) powder or 2 tablespoons of lemon juice. It is a good side-dish for Samosas or Rice porridge.
