Cooking Time : 15-20 mins
Serves : 5-6
1 Cup or 250g Coarse Semolina
1/2 tsp Mustard
1 tsp Urid Dal
1 Sprig Curry Leaves
3 Green Chillies
½cm Cube Ginger
1 Medium Onion
3 tblsp Oil or all ghee
1 tblsp Ghee
1 tsp Salt
2 Cups Water
Note: Broken wheat (Dalia) may be substituted for semolina.
Roast semolina in a frying pan for few minutes until it gives out the characteristic fried smell. Remove from fire and keep aside.
Heat oil well, season with mustard, urid dal and curry leaves. Add nuts broken into small pieces. Fry until golden brown.
Add finely cut green chillies, ginger, onion and carrot; stir for about 3 – 4 minutes.
Add water with salt and boil.
Add semolina, stirring all the time with a wooden spoon. Mix well.
Lower heat. Cover the vessel with a tight fitting lid. Allow semolina to get cooked and become thick consistency.
Add lime juice and coriander leaves. Mix well and remove from fire. Uppuma is ready to be eaten.
