Vathakku Chutney

Vathakku Chutney tastes good for Idlis, porridge or any snack. It is made by stir-frying all the ingredients before grinding.

Main Ingredient : Vegetables

Ingredients :

 

  • Urid dal - 2 tsp
  • Dry red chillies - 3
  • Coriander leaves chopped - 2 tblsp heaped
  • Mint Leaves - 2 tblsp heaped
  • Asafoetida - a pinch (optional)
  • Onion - 1 small
  • Tomatoes - 2
  • Grated coconut - 3 tblsp
  • Garlic - 1 clove
  • Tamarind - just the flesh covering one seed (optional)
  • Oil - 2 tblsp
  • Salt - to taste

Method :
  1. Chop coriander leaves, mint leaves, tomatoes and onion.
  2. Peel the Garlic and grate the coconut.
  3. Heat a pan and add oil.
  4. Add urid dal and dry red chilli and fry on the medium heat until the urid dal becomes golden colour.
  5. Add all the other ingredients to the pan; Fry them for about 3-4 minutes.
  6. Remove them from heat and let it cool down.
  7. Grind them into smooth chutney.


Notes : Serve it for Idlis. Dry red chiili can be replaced by Green chilli if you prefer Green chilli.
