Yam stirfry

Indian way of frying yam.

Ingredients :

 

  • Yam - 300g
  • Cumin ( jeera) powder - 1/2 tsp (optional)
  • Chilli powder - 1 tsp
  • Turmeric powder - 1/8 tsp
  • Oil - 3 tblsp
  • Curry leaves - 2-3
  • Water - as required
  • Salt - to taste

Method :
  1. Wash, peel and cut yam into 1cm or 1 an 1/2cm long cubes.
  2. Heat a pan on the stove and add oil.
  3. When the oil is hot enough, add curry leaves. Fry for a min.
  4. Add turmeric powder and chilli powder.
  5. Add yam slices and 1/2 a tsp salt.Fry for 2-3 mins.
  6. Cover and cook for 8-10 mins.
  7. Open the lid and stir the vegetables few times whilst it is getting cooked to avoid the sticking of vegetables to the bottom of the pan.
  8. Once the vegetables are cooked, add cumin powder and fry for further 5-6 mins to make it crispier.


Notes : It can also be deep fried after adding salt, turmeric powder and chilli powder.Suitable for rice and Sambar, Rasam, Yoghurt curry, Tamarind Egg Curry, Tamarind egg omlette curry or Garlic curry.
