Battered Prawn fry

Battered Prawns are tasty fried prawns, made with Indian spices. They are great as an appetiser.

Ingredients :

 

  • King Prawns- 400g
  • Ginger-garlic paste - 2 tsp
  • Turmeric powder - 1/8 tsp
  • Chilli powder - 1 tsp heaped for medium spicy and 2 tsp for very spicy
  • Ground pepper - 1/4 tsp
  • Corn flour - 4 tblsp heaped
  • Plain flour (Fine wheat flour) - 2 tblsp heaped
  • Egg - 1
  • Sodium bicarbonate - 1/4 tsp
  • Coriander leaves chopped - to garnish
  • Cooking oil (sunflower or vegetable oil) - 250ml for deep frying
  • Salt - to taste
  • Water - as required

Method :
  1. Chop the coriander leaves.
  2. Mix together the corn flour, plain flour, egg, turmeric, chilli powder, salt, pepper and ginger-garlic paste.
  3. Add little water if the above batter is too thick.
  4. Heat a deep frying pan. Add oil.
  5. Add 4-5 prawns at a time into the batter.
  6. Coat the prawns with batter and deep fry them until golden brown.
  7. Repeat the above 2 steps until all the prawns are fried.
  8. Garnish with coriander leaves.


Notes : Tail of the prawn can be left to make it look beautiful.

Alternate Method:

You can use rice flour instead of plain flour for more crispiness.
