Masala vadai

Masala vadai are a perfect snack for when you have friends over and is well suited for evening teatime. Never mind the deep frying, these fritters are rich in protein!

Main Ingredient : Beans/Pulses

Ingredients :

 

  • Channa Dal - 250g
  • Onion small - 1/2
  • Curry leaves - 1 sprig
  • Green chilli - 2
  • Red chilli - 1
  • Ginger grated - 1 tsp (optional)
  • Asafoetida - a pinch
  • Ground rice - 1 tblsp (optional)
  • Oil - 300ml for frying
  • Salt - to taste
  • Water - as required

Method :
  1. Soak dal for atleast 30 minutes.
  2. Chop onion and chilli finely; Tear the curry leaves.
  3. Drain off water and grind the dal to an extra coarse paste with red chilli and salt without water. If it is difficult to grind without water, then add 1-2 teaspoon of water.
  4. Combine the ground dal, onion, green chilli, curry leaves and asafoetida.
  5. Add ground rice if the combined mix is not solid enough to make patties.
  6. Make 3-4cm wide patties. Deep fry them in oil batch by batch.
  7. Channa Dal Fritters are ready to be eaten.


Notes : They can be eaten with chilli sauce or tomato ketchup.
